| Project I-Care |
Since the project started in October 2003, Project I-Care has benefited the residents of elderly Homes. The homes were Sree Narayana Mission Home, Christalite Methodist Home, Villa Francis Home for the Aged, Man Fut Tong Home for the Aged Sick, and Sunshine Welfare Action Home (SWAMI). Project I-Care is an on-going project involving multiple partner organisations, and it has served as a meaningful avenue for many to do their part in voluntary work. Many lay volunteers from the Singapore Women's Association (SWA), Rotaract Club, Interact Club, Rotary Club of Suntec City, and the NorthWest Community Development Council (NWCDC) provide logistical and manpower support to the project. Some volunteers have become repeat volunteers and this helps sustain the project year after year. Ophthalmologists volunteer their services under the auspices of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology (SSO) on a regular basis for Project I Care to perform eye screenings at these homes. The SSO in its 2007 AGM reiterated its full support for its members' contribution to the activities of Project I-Care in its efforts to provide eye screening to the needy, as it provides an additional altruistic aspect to its activities. Project I Care serves as a platform for its members to contribute to society at large especially to the those who are needy. A glimpse of some of SSO members’ involvement in a few of previous screenings...
